ABSTRACT
In an electrical network, significant power quality issues and the generation of harmonic current occur due to the rapid growth of nonlinear load. They not only decrease an electric utility system’s power factor performance, but they also start causing many serious issues s such as calibration errors in measuring instruments, overheating of equipment, failure of sensitive devices, and increases the distribution system’s Total Harmonic Distortion. Shunt Active Filter (SAPF) plays a vital role in the mitigation of harmonics and enhancing voltage stabilisation. In this paper, a review of harmonic current extraction techniques, DC-link voltage regulation, and current control techniques of SAPF was discussed. Integration of renewable energy systems with SAPF was also reviewed. Almost all the work-related research papers are analyzed and listed for reference. Some suggestions were given from the perspective of future research.
