Ave Atque Vale

Ave Atque Vale is a Latin phrase typically translated in English as Hail and Farewell. It is attributed to the Roman poet Catullus (84 BC-54 BC) which he used to conclude his elegy to his deceased brother. Over the centuries, it has been used to designate an end and a new beginning.

With this issue, Neuro-Ophthalmology is marking an end and a new beginning. Simon Hickman has decided to retire from the journal. During his tenure with Neuro-Ophthalmology, Simon has held many position including Reviewer, Literature Review Editor, Associate Editor for Europe, and for the last five years, Co-Editor-in-Chief. We will miss his wisdom and knowledge.

I am delighted to announce that with this issue of Neuro-Ophthalmology, Dan Milea will be assuming the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief. Dan is a Neuro-Ophthalmogist and Clinical Scientist in Paris, France. Dan currently is Head of the Visual Neuroscience Group at the Rothschild Foundation Hospital. Prior to recently assuming this position, Dan was previously at the Singapore National Eye Institute/Singapore Eye Research Institute. He has received numerous research grants and published extensively.

Dan has already offered creative ideas on improving Neuro-Ophthalmology. Together, we are planning to add additional Associate Editors and expand the Editorial Board. This is a new beginning for Neuro-Ophthalmology and please join me in welcoming Dan Milea as Co-Editor-in-Chief.
