Seven, a Magic Number

ORCID Icon

I am deeply grateful to have been appointed the 7th Editor-in-Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology. Indeed, there is no higher honour than the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of essential, inspiring, admired giants. I had the incredible chance to meet, as a resident, Professor Alfred Huber, founder and first Editor-in-Chief of the journalCitation1 at my first international meeting, in Switzerland. Seduced by the elegance and the depth of his approach, I kept looking at the stars over the years, admiring masters who serve or have served as Editors-in-Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology, including Gordon Plant, Walter Jay and Simon Hickman.Citation2 I am grateful to Gordon for his wonderful and generous friendship over so many years; I hope that I will be able to follow the high editorial standards of Simon; I am looking forward to working with Walter, who has already offered his unconditional, brilliant support. Taken together, their achievements for the journal in the recent years are impressive: getting the journal listed on PubMed Central; obtaining an impact factor; being the official journal of the European Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (EUNOS) and finally, building a truly international readership.

At a more personal level, such a rich heritage may be intimidating, but I am inspired by the high quality of the Editorial Board, Associate Editors, publishing team and all the anonymous reviewers, not to mention the authors who ensure the success of the journal on an everyday basis. In a very short time, we have recently obtained the addition of a few new, young associate editors from various parts of the world, who will leverage their networks to improve even more the journal’s standards. The world is rapidly changing and Neuro-Ophthalmology plans to generate new ways of information to serve our speciality, nourishing the curiosity of an avid readership.

Seven musical notes, seven rainbow colours, seven days, seven wonders, there is a magic in the number seven. I am truly humbled to be the 7th Editor-in-Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology.
