Dear Colleagues,
The 13th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP), Global Publication Practices: Advancing Ethics and Scientific Integrity in an Era of Data-Sharing, took place 1–3 May 2017. This year’s theme and session topics highlighted the ever-expanding area of data-sharing and the shift from “should we?” to “how do we?” We are operating in a time when ethics and scientific integrity are even more critical as data-sharing connects researchers more closely and global requirements begin to emerge.
We are pleased that the 13th Annual Meeting of ISMPP continued to feature member research as a key component of its program with a Member Proposal parallel session and four oral presentations. Building on the success of the guided poster tours that were introduced at last year’s meeting, tours were held each day to allow opportunities for in-depth discussion on select posters and maximized attendee exposure to member research.
This year’s meeting saw an approximately 34% increase in unique abstract submissions from the year prior. As medical publication professionals, it is important to continue to research and publish on concepts important to our profession, particularly those that stand to help improve the quality and reach of scientific communications. Many abstracts showcased at this year’s meeting focused on data-sharing, as well as transparency, metrics, digital opportunities in medical publications and the patient perspective, among many other topics.
This supplement represents our ninth collaboration with Current Medical Research & Opinion (CMRO) and includes abstracts presented either as oral or poster presentations during the 13th Annual Meeting of ISMPP and the 2017 European Meeting of ISMPP, The Evolving Role of Publication Professionals in a Multi-Stakeholder Environment, held 17–18 January, London, UK.
