Anode shaping for rejection of π-mode in relativistic A6 magnetron

ABSTRACT

Hull and Hartree curves of relativistic A6 magnetron with shaped anode face are theoretically re-investigated and numerically simulated to show that a set of curves are obtained for this type of modification. Also, a new shaped anode A6 magnetron (SA6) is introduced for which its anode radius is decreased, but the operating point is not changed so that the angular velocity of electrons is close to the phase velocity of 2π-mode. In this way by eliminating the π-mode, the oscillation power is essentially due to the 2π-mode. The simulation results obtained by a full-time domain solver and Particle-In-Cell-based software are compared with those of A6 magnetron.

Hasan Zibaeenejad received the BS degree in electronics engineering and MS degree in communications engineering from Shiraz University and is currently pursuing the PhD degree with the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran. His current research is design and development of microwave vacuum tubes and numerical modeling.

Habibollah Abiri

Habibollah Abiri received the BS degree in electrical engineering from Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran, in 1978, and the DEA and Doctor d'Ingenieur degrees from National Polytechnique Institute of Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 1981 and 1984, respectively. He has been with Shiraz University since 1985 where he is currently a professor. His research interests include electromagnetic theory, numerical methods, antennas and vacuum devices.
