Pages 24-31 | Published online: 11 Sep 2019

Abstract

All teachers whether in teacher training, field experience, student teaching, substitute teaching or covering a class; need an arsenal of short activity breaks aimed at increasing heart rate for students, or for allowing a “brain boost” for better focus, creativity and to become more mentally productive. Brain boosters are examples of quick, easy, and inexpensive ways to accomplish an increased heart rate without leaving a classroom. All activities listed have been developed and practiced during teacher candidate seminars throughout the past four years. The article provides a list of ideas and instructional steps to entice the students to get up and move.

Acknowledgments

My first acknowledgment goes to my advisor and mentor, my mother, Joy Birky. She has been patient in assisting me with editing according to the emphasis of each system. Also, to my husband, Steve, the joy that you have brought to my life has made this accomplishment more attainable. I hope I can be as much help to you when it comes your time to submit publications.
