Abstract
Several subjective and arbitrary grading methods are used in assessing cell and flare in uveitis. Clinicians are in need of an objective method of determining and monitoring active inflammation. We studied the correlation of changes in macular thickness between the visits and compared the change to visual acuity (VA), cell, flare, or the inflammation index (which we defined as cell+flare). The best correlations were between macular thickness and VA, and between the inflammation index and macular thickness. Macular thickness as seen on OCT, may be more objective and correlate more closely with VA than measurement of flare and/or cell.
