Editor’s Introduction

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the first edition of Ocular Immunology and Inflammation of 2020. As is usual for this first edition of the year, I would like to both reflect on

what we have achieved over the last 12 months and then point to some highlights for the coming year.

In our series “Disease of the Year” we analyzed the situation of “HIV infection and ocular inflammation” in 2019. Most of the planned reviews have been finalized or are currently under review. The Editorial Board for this consisted of Jolanda de Groot (Utrecht, The Netherlands), and Derrick Smit (Cape Town, South Africa).

For 2020 we have planned to leave the internal segment of the eye and to concentrate on the inflammatory components of the Dry Eye. Together with the recently founded “European Dry Eye Society” (EuDES) we will summarize the state-of-the-art of the most prevalent ocular disease in the world.

We are planning a series of approximately twelve topics. The Editorial Board will consist of Jennifer Craig (Auckland, New Zealand), Andrea Leonardi (Padua, Italy), Christophe Baudouin (Paris, France), Pedram Hamrah (Boston, USA), Stefano Barabino (Milan, Italy) and Friedrich Paulsen (Erlangen, Germany).

This year, nearly 600 manuscripts have been submitted to OII, a major increase from previous years. One year of OII now consists of 8 issues.

Such an increase of volume is only possible because the journal has supportive reviewing editors and reviewers. Thanks to all of you. An acknowledgment of reviewers by name can be found on OII’s page on Taylor & Francis Online. Of course, I also want to thank all contributors, and I encourage you to submit your best work to OII so that we can continue to provide our readers with the highest quality articles and reviews from the field of ocular immunology and inflammation.

Thank you for your continuing support and happy new year!
