Abstract
To confirm whether the lunar phase and the frequency of ovine births are correlated, this study examined the temporal distribution of 68,127 lamb births in Spain over 37 consecutive lunar cycles. The distribution of lambing dates was similar and non-significantly different among the four moon phases: full moon (24%), decrescent moon (23%), new moon (28%), crescent moon (25%); thus, there was no evidence to support the persistent popular belief that the lunar cycle affects the timing of lamb births.
