Abstract:

Essential oil composition of aerial part of Salvia dracocephaloides Boiss. was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The oil was rich in Monoterpens (88.6 %) . camphor (42.6 %), 1,8-cineole (26.6 %), camphene (3.8 %) and bicyclogermacrene (2.5 %) were the main components. Total flavonoid content of different extracts of the plant, was found between (1.43-2.88) mg/g and it was found maximum 2.88 mg/g in 80 % hydromethanolic extract. Antioxidant activity of hydromethanolic extract was also measured by DPPH test. Results showed that hydromethanolic extract of S. dracocephaloides is truly comparable with Trolox as a standard anti-oxidant.
