Fax Communication — A New Way for Distance Communication for People with Mental Retardation

SUMMARY

This paper presents the results of a limited study on fax communication for five persons with moderate mental retardation. The aim of the study was to investigate if the use of fax could facilitate and support distance communication and increase social integration. The five cases are based on background descriptions based on questionnaires, fax protocols, diary notes and interviews. The results revealed that the use of fax concerned questions related to personal/individual factors, social network and organization/system.
