OS, OT and Me: Personal reminiscences inspired by the 2017 Occupational Science Europe conference

ABSTRACT

From the seeds of ideas about occupation and its benefits to human well-being, planted over 100 years ago, have sprung occupational science forests around the globe. After half a century of focus, the development of the practice of occupational therapy moved forward, but the resources for the development of a science had not. Impetus from Reilly and her successors determined that an academic discipline was vital to providing a unique knowledge foundation not only for the professional field, but also for the complex problems of society. Although the beginnings focused on knowledge bases which supported the concept of the individual as an occupational being, work expanded through the diversity of theorists, researchers and practitioners interested in building a science. The role of occupational science in social transformation becomes a theme arising from the concepts such as occupational justice. Personal reactions to this transition have included anxiety, doubt, interest, and excitement. The Occupational Science Europe 2017 conference offered an opportunity to interact with international participants focusing on traditional and developing concepts related to transformation and change.

100多年前播下的生活活动学及其为人类造福的思想的种子，已破土生长成覆盖全球的生活活动科学之林。经过半个世纪的重点研究，生活活动治疗实践不断向前发展，但作为一门学科的发展所需要的资源却没有跟上。蕾莉及其后继者认为，一门学科不仅为专业领域，而且为复杂的社会问题提供独特的知识基础，起着关键的作用。虽然最初的研究集中于这样的知识基础，它支持个人是一种生活活动存在这一概念，但由于对建立一门科学感兴趣的理论家、研究人员和实践者的多样性，研究工作得以展开。生活活动科学在社会转型中的作用成为诸如生活活动正义等概念引出的一个主题。个人对这种转变的反应包括焦虑、怀疑、兴趣和兴奋。2017年欧洲生活活动科学会议提供了国际参与者互动的机会，重点关注与转型和变革相关的传统和发展概念。

De las semillas de ideas sobre la ocupación y sus beneficios para el bienestar humano, sembradas hace más de 100 años, brotaron bosques de ciencias ocupacionales en todo el mundo. Si bien después de medio siglo el desarrollo de la práctica de la terapia ocupacional avanzó, los recursos para el desarrollo de esta ciencia no lo hicieron. El ímpetu de Reilly y sus sucesores determinó que para proporcionar una base de conocimiento única era vital una disciplina académica, no solo en cuanto al campo profesional, sino también para abordar los complejos problemas de la sociedad. Aunque inicialmente la misma se centró en las bases de conocimiento que apoyaban el concepto del individuo como un ser ocupacional, el trabajo se expandió gracias a una diversidad de teóricos, investigadores y operadores interesados ⁣⁣en construir una ciencia. El papel desempeñado por la ciencia ocupacional en la transformación social constituye un tema que surgió de conceptos como el de justicia ocupacional. Las reacciones personales a esta transición incluyeron ansiedad, duda, interés y entusiasmo. El congreso Occupational Science Europe de 2017 representó una oportunidad para que participantes de distintas nacionalidades intercambiaran opiniones sobre conceptos, tradicionales y en desarrollo, relacionados con la transformación y el cambio.
