The Window Opens

, MD (Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Groups in Addiction and Recovery, Lecturer)

We may hear in the rooms of mutual support groups that God does not close a door without opening a window. In this era of diminishing library budgets and increased financial pressures on publishers, the doors of our journal are closing with the final issue, Volume 12, number 4. Although our circulation may not have been sufficient to create financial solvency, we have been remarkably successful in creating a community of clinicians and scholars who have been committed to the central tasks of our journal: authoring manuscripts, reviewing manuscripts, and serving as guest editors. This final issue, edited by Brendan Young, is a sterling example of what we have accomplished over the 12 years of our publication history.

I am grateful to share with you that a window has also been opened. My dear colleague and friend, Thomas McGovern, editor of Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly (ATQ), has generously offered to provide space for our authors, reviewers, and editorial board members to join in the work of his journal. As I let go of my role as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Groups in Addiction and Recovery, I will be assuming the role of associate editor of ATQ, with my major task being to maintain the continuity of publishing the kind of work that we have been proud to share with you during the life of our journal.

We hope that our readers will become subscribers to ATQ, that our authors will continue to submit their manuscripts there, and that our reviewers and editorial board will harness the energies in the service of our new home. My deepest thanks and warmest regards to all who have been involved in any role with our journal. May our paths continue to cross both professionally and personally.
