Abstract

Sphaeranthus amaranthoides is well known and reported for its hepatoprotective activity. In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the hepatoprotective activity of Heptamethoxyflavone isolated from Sphaeranthus amaranthoides. The results obtained in this study showed an increased microbial load of 0.134 ± 0.011 CFU in the high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) treated group and 0.066 ± 0.003 CFU and LPS in the HFCS–heptamethoxyflavone (HMF)-treated group. On the other hand, the serum ALT, ALP, and ASP and MDA values have significantly decreased when treated with Heptamethoxyflavone. The antioxidant enzyme content was significantly increased in HFCS– heptamethoxyflavone treated rats. In addition, the production levels of caspase-3 and-9, Bcl-2, Bax, IL-β, TNF-α, and NF-κB in the liver are lowered significantly in the HFCS-HMF treated group.
