Notes
1 All references are from Lyly, Galatea; line numbers added by the author.
2 The play’s text specifies pronouns for both the characters and the actors who played them. The character of Hebe, for example, began the play as she/her and later shifted during the sacrifice soliloquy to they/them. Bea Webster, the actor who played Hebe, uses they/them pronouns. For this review I use the actors’ pronouns when speaking of their performances.
