As we open Volume 12 of Critical Studies on Security, we would like to announce some recent changes to the composition of the journal’s editorial team. Coralie Hindawi completed a term as Associate Editor in 2023 and we extend both our best wishes and our gratitude for her contributions, from which we all benefitted. At the same time, rising submission rates signalled that the time was right to welcome several additional members to an expanded editorial group. We have been joined by four new and outstanding Associate Editors, each of whom brings unique strengths in their areas of expertise: Dean Cooper-Cunningham (University of Copenhagen), Thomas Gregory (University of Auckland), Liam Midzain-Gobin (Brock University), and Ananya Sharma (Ashoka University). With Colleen Bell, Helen Berents, Rhys Machold, and Somdeep Sen all continuing their excellent work as Editors tasked with the handling of main article submissions, we have a very strong editorial group covering a range of areas within the journal’s remit and connected to diverse professional networks that will help us continue building on accomplishments to date. Aggie Hirst and Chris Rossdale, Editors of the popular Interventions section, bring together deeply insightful collections of shorter contributions on a range of fascinating and important issues. Rebekah Pullen continues her service as Social Media Editor, increasing our visibility as well as interactions on developments with CSoS. Shannon Stettner, our superb Managing Editor, keeps us all coordinated, liaises with the publisher and production staff, and contributes to all efforts towards building on the journal’s strengths and accomplishments.

Finally, we would like to draw attention to a couple of other recent developments of note. The past year has seen continued positive growth across the journal’s metrics, which we know is as important to prospective authors as it is to us. This includes but is not limited to rapidly increasing submission rates and receipt of a first impact factor assessment (following from our 2022 acceptance for indexing in Scopus and Web of Science: ESCI) that exceeded expectations. Perhaps of particular interest to authors, on advice from the Editorial Board and in light of trends noted from recent submissions, we have widened the word length thresholds for main articles to 7,000 to 12,000 words, inclusive of notes and references. This will enable us to accommodate a wider range of submissions engaging the practice and politics of security through any of the critical social theory positions.

We look forward to the year ahead and sincerely thank the many authors, reviewers, and readers who have contributed to the successes of Critical Studies on Security.
