Abstract

Photovoice is a community-based participatory action research method used with vulnerable groups, being LGBTQIA+ one of the groups addressed. This systematic review aims to understand the use of photovoice with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We searched for literature across five databases and performed a quality assessment and narrative synthesis. The main findings, based on 39 included studies, show that: (1) the topics focus the intersection of LGBTQIA+, race/ethnicity, and other vulnerabilities; (2) the photovoice method comprised more individual interviews, and less involvement of audiences; (3) photovoice advantages involve the open expression, while limitations were maintaining some closure about some issues.
