Abstract
A review of recent medical and psychological literature regarding asthma and chronic disease is presented, and a model for treatment within a transactional analysis frame of reference is offered. Three distinct treatment levels, illustrated by three case examples, are described in terms of the structural model of ego states.

Willem Lammers, PTSTA, is a Certified Clinical Transactional Analyst and a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist. He currently heads the department for the elderly of the Netherlands Asthma Centre in Davos, Switzerland and is Co-Director of IAS Davos AG, an Institute for applied social sciences.
