A fresh new look for CMRO

Online summary

A note from the publisher to highlight the new print and online design improvements for CMRO from the October 2009 issue.

To our readers,

Well, I certainly hope you’ve noticed something different about this issue!

We are very pleased to unveil a new design for Current Medical Research and Opinion (CMRO)—a clean and modern look befitting a key venue for dissemination of cutting-edge science. You may have already spotted the new logo and design in some of our EarlyOnline articles, but I would like to share with you just a few details about our new print and online improvements.

Print

As you can see from this issue’s cover, we are now featuring several articles in various areas of the cover to give you quick hits of the best papers rather than mentioning every article. You also will notice a dedicated space at the bottom of the cover to promote our online features, encouraging you to use our full range of search tools and e-alerting services on our web site at www.cmrojournal.com.

But it’s not only the cover we’ve changed. We’ve also revitalized the inside pages—with an easier-to-read table of contents, a revamped title page format, an enlarged abstract section, and introduction of color headers. We believe these changes will make the journal easier to navigate, more enjoyable to read, and more relevant to your needs.

Online

We ask you to please visit our web site in October (www.cmrojournal.com) to see how the new logo and overall design have been incorporated into our online home and enabled us to offer some new features as well. Among just a few of the improvements: the introduction of color graphs and images to the PDF version of each article; a quick, free e-Alerts service that will notify you of newly released articles; a Free Content portal where you can download key articles at no cost; a Featured Article section containing articles chosen by our editors to represent the most interesting findings; and a ‘Most-Read’ area that encourages you to explore additional content within CMRO. We’ve also made great strides in improving navigation on the site so that you can find and access the information that you want as easily as possible.

A final remark on our new logo: If you look carefully, you will notice that the O in CMRO does not fully close. We’ve done that intentionally to represent:

  • Openness—the industry-leading transparency of our publishing process and the accessibility of our editorial team for queries before, during and after the publication process provides you with trusted content and the personalized publication service that you expect.

  • Opinion—the important commentary papers we publish from the world’s leading experts allows them the opportunity to express their perspectives, ensuring that you get additional views on the interpretation of trial data and original research to help you keep up to date on key opinions on clinical controversies across all therapy areas.

  • On time—the speed with which manuscripts can be published in CMRO (in as little as five to seven weeks from submission to online publication for submissions) means that you get vital clinical information as quickly as possible and you can achieve rapid, fully citable publication of your time-sensitive manuscripts. And our publishing services team can help you further disseminate your papers quickly to a wider audience in a variety of formats.

  • Online—the availability of free access to selected articles, a free e-Alerts service, a Twitter site, highlighted Featured Articles, a Most Read articles service, e-Prints availability, and access to our journal archive going back to our first issue in 1972 means that you are informed about and have easy online access to the latest vital clinical evidence.

So while we may have changed our look, you can be assured that we haven’t forgotten our core mission: to provide ethical, unbiased and rapid publication of quality content that is validated by rigorous peer review. We will continue to strive every day to offer you a better journal—one that meets your need for easily accessible, authoritative clinical evidence.

We encourage you to share CMRO’s improvements with your colleagues and associates. As ever, I welcome your comments and hope you take the time to share them with the CMRO team.

Sincerely,

Jay Magrann
