Persistence of atorvastatin and simvastatin among patients with and without prior cardiovascular diseases: a US managed care study

Correction to: Foody JM et al. Persistence of atorvastatin and simvastatin among patients with and without prior cardiovascular diseases: US managed care study. Curr Med Res Opin 2008;24:1987-2000

The authors have been made aware of two errors that appeared in their paper and are happy to be able to make the following corrections:

  1. On page 1988, the sentences running from the bottom of the left column through the top of right column (before ‘Methods’) should read:

‘The aim of this study was to compare persistence with atorvastatin and simvastatin therapy (the two most widely prescribed statins in the PharMetrics database during the period consistent with the study). Of the 2.26 million patients who received at least one prescription for statin therapy during this period 58% of patients received at least one atorvastatin prescription and 23% received at least one simvastatin prescription in patients with and without prior CV events by analyzing nationally representative medical and pharmacy claims data from more than 90 managed care plans33.’

  1. The n values in Table 2 appearing on pages 1993–4, ‘Baseline demographics and characteristics of patients with prior CV events initiating atorvastatin or simvastatin therapy (January 1, 2002 to September 30, 2005)’, should have matched those in the text. A corrected version of the Table 2 header appears below, which is in line with the text.

Neither of these changes affect the conclusions drawn by the authors.
