Abstract

In patients suffering from renal diseases, mainly chronic glomerular nephritis, simultaneous measurements of inulin, creatinine, [51Cr] EDTA, and PAH clearance were made. The ratio of creatinine to inulin clearance was found to be high (1.30) and variable. [51Cr] EDTA clearance was determined either by constant infusion or single injection technique. The ratios of [51Cr] EDTA to inulin clearance with these two techniques were 0.96 (constant infusion) and 1.00 (single injection) and varied less. It is concluded that [51Cr] EDTA clearance determined with either technique is a better measure of glomerular filtration rate than creatinine clearance.
