Abstract

An overview of biodegradable and biocompatible microcapsules and micro-spheres loaded with neuroactive substances, or cells producing neuroactive substances, and their role as drug delivery systems (DDS) for drug administration to the central nervous system (CNS) is given. In addition, closely related systems are also summarized.
