SveMed+ - A unique Scandinavian database within biomedicine turns 30

Page 132 | Published online: 30 Aug 2012

A new and revised version of SveMed+ is now available on the Karolinska Institute University Library (KIB) home page: http://svemedplus.kib.ki.se/

SveMed+ is a freely available bibliographic database containing references to articles in Scandinavian journals within medicine, dentistry, health care services, occupational therapy, nursing care and physical therapy.

Approximately 100 journals are indexed. Today there are 115 000 references in the database, growing with 4000 references a year. Journals within General Practice such as Allmänmedicin (1988–), Månedsskrift for Almen Praksis (1984–), Utposten (1989–) are indexed. Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care has been selectively indexed from 1983 to 2004, but since 2005 it is indexed from cover to cover.

SveMed+ is constructed according to the same principles as PubMed/Medline and the articles are indexed with MeSH-terms (Medical Subject Headings). Both peer-reviewed and more popular articles are included in the database. On the SveMed+ home page you will find a tag cloud containing common subject areas in the database described in MeSH-terms. Click on “Familjemedicin” and you will see over 2600 references on the subject of family practice. In the right column you can refine your search with limitations for language, document type, age or combine with other MeSH-terms.

If you open a reference, you get all the bibliographic information about the particular article, and a list of similar publications. You can export your references to different reference systems.
