Emerging H6N1 influenza infection: renal problem to be studied

&

Sir, the newest emerging infectious disease, which has just been reported in November 2013, is the emerging H6N1 influenza infection.Citation1,Citation2 The first case was reported from Taiwan.Citation1,Citation2 The indexed case has the respiratory illness. Presently, the medical scientist focuses concern on the new H6N1 influenza infection. In nephrology, although there is no report on the renal complication of the new H6N influenza infection, the problem should be closely monitored. In the previous reports, in animal model, the renal pathology due to H6N1 influenza virus can be seen. Wang and WangCitation3 reported that the virus could attack kidney and could result in death. It is confirmed that the virus can induce acute renal failure.Citation3 To prepare for the possible epidemic of the new H6N1 influenza, the concern on renal problem should be raised.
