Correction to: Dynamics of a recurrent network of spiking neurons before and following learning

This article refers to:
Dynamics of a recurrent network of spiking neurons before and following learning

Amit DJ, Brunel N. 1997. Dynamics of a recurrent network of spiking neurons before and following learning. Network: Computation in neural systems 8:373–404. doi: S0954-898X(97)83282-4

The last author notes that the information provided in the paper is insufficient to reproduce the results shown in the paper. First, in Table 1, no information is provided on the external rates. The external rate used in the simulations of subsection 3.1 is 10.4 Hz per synapse, with each neuron receiving 1200 synapses from outside the network. Second, in Table 1, the values for average efficacies are given with insufficient precision to be able to reproduce the results with a good accuracy. Taking JEE = 0:205 mV, JEI = 3JEEmV, JIE = 0:351 mV, JII = 3JIE, gives analytical and numerical results which are close to the results reported in the paper. In particular, with these parameters, average rates obtained from mean-field equations are 12.3/s (E) and 24.5/s (I), while numerical simulations give 11.5/s (E) and 23.0/s (I). All results of the paper can be reproduced with such parameters, up to a relative precision of about 10% or less.

Finally, the last author notes that the equations at the top of p.401 should read

The last author would like to thank Amit Miller for bringing these problems to my attention.
