My 5-year term as Editor-in-Chief of Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences comes to an end with the last issue of 2012. I wish to express my special appreciation to Dr. Lynn Allen, Executive Editor, with whom I have worked closely, and Dr. David Goldberg, Emeritus Editor, who I succeeded as Editor-in-Chief and who was a tremendous help in the transition. I also want to acknowledge the contributions of the Managing and Production Editors at Informa, who have always provided needed assistance in a timely manner.
I was fortunate to inherit a successful journal from my predecessor and I am delighted to report that Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences continues as a leading publication in laboratory medicine, ranking 2/32 journals in the Medical Laboratory Technology discipline of the 2011 Journal Citation Reports® (©Thomson Scientific, 2012).
Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences has unique features that I have come to understand well during my term as Editor-in-Chief. Firstly, review articles are generally solicited from international experts on the advice of members of the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB). Secondly, in order to promote a transparent and fair review process, a single expert, whose name appears on the first page of the manuscript, is assigned the task of refereeing the paper. Clearly, the journal cannot exist without the considered recommendations of the EAB members in their respective areas of expertise, or without the willingness of referees to review papers, and I sincerely thank them all for their contributions.
Over the coming years, Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences will continue to publish high quality “critical” reviews in all areas of clinical laboratory science with the aim to allow clinical scientists to broaden their primary knowledge base from the various fields of medicine that they require to perform their work and to allow laboratory physicians to keep pace with the rapid developments taking place in scientific disciplines that directly impact their daily activities.
I am pleased to report that from 2013, the new Editor-in-Chief will be Dr. Khosrow Adeli from the University of Toronto and I wish him well with this endeavour. On his request, I have agreed to become a member of the EAB.
