Appreciation

This issue of The American Journal on Addictions marks the completion of its eighteenth year of publication. The Journal and the official recognition of addiction psychiatry as a subspeciality are evidence that American psychiatry has reasserted its commitment to treating addictive disorders. Also, the scientific merit of the Journal has been recognized with its inclusion in the National Library of Medicine's Index Medicus, MEDLINE, and the MEDLARS systems. The Journal is the result of hard work on the part of the members and staff of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, especially my assistant, Martha Bostick. I would also like to thank the members of the Editorial Board, whose names appear on the masthead of every issue; without their efforts, the publication of the Journal would not have been possible.
