Abstract

This article is a shortened version of our plenary lecture at the 3rd Nordic Congress in Logopedics and Phoniatrics held in Gothenburg in October 1994. The theme for our lecture was “The Use of Computers in Logopedics”. Computers have gradually gained a significant role in logopedic work. Our experience until now has shown that the use of computers in many cases can improve the competence of individuals with various language and speech difficulties. However, we are also aware of a number of problems involved in the use of computers which should be kept in mind. Experts predict that the technological development in computers will be at least as fast in the coming years as it has been till now. However, if we are to be able to make constant use of the opportunities that this technology offers us in the service of the logopedic profession we, as a specialist group, must be prepared to show more commitment.
