This edition of the Journal starts off with a fascinating article by Jow et al. entitled “Patient Compliance as a Major Determinant of Laser Tattoo Removal Success Rates: A 10-Year Retrospective Study.” Q-switched lasers have withstood the test of time in the treatment of tattoos. Although far from perfect, these lasers can clearly lighten tattoos without a significant risk of significant scarring. Despite this, patients paying for such treatments are often non-compliant with following through with their treatments. This study takes a critical 10 year retrospective look at the reasons for this lack of compliance.

Facial and body sculpturing has become one of the fastest areas on non-surgical cosmetic treatment. Sadick looks at the use of a 1064nm Nd: YAG laser used for lipolysis of the torso while Adatto describes the use of an exciting new device for the treatment of cellulite.

Intense pulsed light technology remains a mainstay in light based cosmetic treatments. Dong discusses treatment of facial port wine stains with a new intense pulsed light source in Chinese patients while Rodriguez-Lojo evaluates an intense pulsed light source for the treatment of the very common problem of Keratosis Pilaris. Del Pozo also looks at a very common problem, the treatment of milia. The approach is not common – use of a carbon dioxide laser.

Finally Turlier describes the assessment of the clinical efficacy of a hyaluronic acid-based deep wrinkle filler using a new method while Minnicucci describes the use of low level laser therapy in the treatment of epidermolysis bullosa. Enjoy!
