Abstract
Studies in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have shown that potent serotonin reuptake inhibitors (e.g., clomipramine and fluvoxamine) are effective anti-obsessive compulsive treatments, whereas antidepressant drugs that are not potent blockers of serotonin reuptake are generally ineffective in reducing symptoms of OCD. In addition to briefly reviewing these findings, issues in the selection of appropriate pharmacological management of OCD are discussed.
