Serological screening tests for syphilis in pregnancy: Results of a 10 year survey (1983–92) in Coventry

Summary

A retrospective 10 year survey (1983–1992) to determine the incidence and clinical importance of positive syphilis serology tests in pregnancy was performed in Coventry. The incidence was 1/4400. Antenatal screening identified 9 mothers of whom 5 had previously unknown acquired syphilis and 4 were known and had been previously treated. A further 2 patients were diagnosed after delivery.
