• Rather than being purchased (at high cost), anhydrous cyanamide was prepared via ether extraction from a 50% aqueous solution. The ethereal solution was treated with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and evaporated to dryness, leaving pure cyanamide as a clear, colorless oil.
