- Caution: Ethyl fluoroacetate (Fike Chemical, Sigma Chemical Company) is extremely poisonous, causing convulsions and ventricular fibrillation. It was used without purification, and handled by syringe in an efficient fume hood. Sodium fluoroacetate (Sigma Chemical Company) and fluoroacetyl chloride are fatal poisons affecting the central nervous system causing epilectic convulsions. They were also handled with extreme caution in an efficient fume hood.
