• MR spectra were recorded with Hitachi R‐600 (60MHz) except f or α‐sinensal which was recorded on AM‐500, FT NMR spectrometers, in CDCl3 using TMS as internal standard, J values given in Hz. Mass spectra were recorded with Shimadzu GC MS‐ 1000 spectrometer at 70 ev. IR spectra were recorded with a perkin Elmer 681 spectrometer. The microanalysis was done on Carlo Erba strumentazione 1106 elemental analyser. Usual work up refers the extraction with ethyl acetate, washing the organic extracts with water, brine, drying over anhydrous Na2SO4 and evaporation of the solvent under reduced pressure. Column chromatography was performed on silica gel (100–200 mesh), Slurry packed, employing increasing amounts of ethylacetate in petroleum ether (b. p. 60–80) as eluting solvent. Microanalytical and m+ values of products are in agreement with calculated values
