• Analysis of the hexane distilled from the reaction mixture permitted verification of the presence of tetramethylstannane by GC/MS, 1H and 119Sn NMR spectroscopies. Further support for the formation of tetramethylstannane from the added equivalent of methyllithium to form alanate complex 3, and perhaps ultimately from methyldiisobutylalane, comes from the formation of an alanate analogous to 3which is derived from alane 2 upon addition of n-butyllithium. After quenching the alanate with chlorotrimethylstannane a 50% yield of the expected n-butyltrimethylstannane was isolated in addition to the desired product
