- The pKas values were obtained by courtesy of Prof. Ulf Ragnarsson (University of Uppsala, Sweden) and Prof. Ilmar Koppel (University of Tartu, Estonia). They were determined by titration of DMSO solutions with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide. It has been found recently in our laboratory that nosylates 5 react rapidly with DMSO under basic conditions. Therefore it is not clear whether the measured pKa values reflect the real acidity of 5 or that of the preformed 5-DMSO salt-like complexes (see Scheme 2)
