• Tonsil Optimun Extra (actually Actisil FF) a commercial mexican bentonitic clay is available from Tonsil Mexicana S A., Insurgentes Sur 1971; 01020, México City at US 0.95/kg; examined with X-ray fluorescence, this clay proved to have the following composition (in percent): SiO2, 74.5; Al2O3, 9.3; MgO, 0.4; Fe2O3, 1.3; CaO, 4.0; K2O, 0.4; TiO2, 0.4; H2O, 9.5 (110°C). The clay showed an specific surface area of 55.30 m2/g, the interlayer distance was probed to be 15 Å, using paraffine as the internal standard. When X-ray thermodifractograms were (R.T., 100, 200,… 800°C), the clay showed to be unstable over 100°C. It is worth to mention that quartz and cristobalite are also important components
