• Copper(I) trifluoromethanesulfonate benzene complex, (CF3SO3Cu)2•C6H6. was obtained from Aldrich Chemical Co. and used without purification. The reported purity is 90%. Thus, 280 mg was used to give 1 mmol of Cu(I). It is extremely sensitive to both water and oxygen, being easily oxidized to the Cu(II) twin. All manipulations were carried out under argon
