Current Issues in Human Biology
This collection of papers has the common characteristic of being presented at the combined 22nd European Anthropological Association Congress (EAA) and 15th Congress of the International Society for research in human Growth and clinical Auxology (ISGA) held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in August 2022. They represent the response of several invited speakers to the title ‘Human Variation and Adaptation in a Changing World’. Variation and adaptation of our species has been a core theme of the human sciences for more than a century and has particular significance at a time of major international conflict and economic crises against a background of a global pandemic. Together these papers represent the breadth and depth of research being undertaken as anthropologists, human biologists, and auxologists address pertinent topics within this theme. The papers discuss methods used to analyse increasingly complex data sets and include the effects of human conflict on child growth, the birth outcomes associated with migration from rural island settings to urban mainland settings, the relationship between stunted growth and cardiovascular disease in developed countries, and the continued concern over exposure to environmental toxins and pubertal development.
