The Evolution of Counter-Terrorism in Asia
Terrorism continues to pose a threat to national and regional security throughout Asia. Over the past decade, the Islamic State and Al Qaeda have generated affiliate groups across the region that have capitalised on pre-existing conflicts and insurgencies to establish transnational networks. At the same time, a plethora of local terrorist and violent extremist groups and movements remain active. Links between terrorists in different countries and the use of new disruptive technologies have enabled terrorists to operate across borders, creating novel challenges for counter terrorism practitioners. The papers in this collection are authored by local and global scholars and follow the recent evolution of counter terrorism strategies in Asia as they respond to these challenges. They showcase examples of increased regional cooperation and innovative means of responding to the evolving challenge.
