About this journal

Aims and scope

Communicative & Integrative Biology is a multidisciplinary Open Access journal focused on understanding biological organisms as systems integrated via bio-communication. The journal explores every level of biological organization from subcellular organelles to societies, and encompasses animal, plant, and microbial communication, as well as signaling, cognition, consciousness, evolution, ecology, and behavioral ecology.

Organismal behavior is based on integrated sensory systems. These provide organisms with positive and negative experiences and memories, allowing active and effective adaptation to an ever-changing environment. Intraorganismal communication and integrated signaling underly the development, polarity and morphogenesis of multicellular organisms. Moreover, stress adaptation, pathogenesis, parasitism, immunity, symbiosis, mutualism and other types of interorganismal interactions are also based on various modes of biological communication.

Communicative & Integrative Biology welcomes manuscripts discussing novel research and developing trends in biological sciences. The journal accepts the following articles types:

  • Original Research Papers
  • Short Reports
  • Reviews
  • Opinion Papers
  • Commentaries

Open access

Communicative & Integrative Biology is an open access journal and only publishes open access articles. Publishing open access means that your article will be free to access online immediately on publication, increasing the visibility, readership, and impact of your research.

Why choose open access?

  1. Increase the discoverability and readership of your article
  2. Make an impact and reach new readers, not just those with easy access to a research library
  3. Freely share your work with anyone, anywhere
  4. Comply with funding mandates and meet the requirements of your institution, employer or funder
