Aims and scope

Published by Oxford University Press from 2022.

Policy and Society is a leading international open access journal that publishes peer-reviewed research on critical issues in policy theory and practice at the local, national and international levels. The journal aims to understand the origin, workings and implications of policies within their broader political, social and economic contexts.

Please note that proposals must be approved by the Editors prior to full manuscript submission. No unsolicited, single manuscript submissions will be accepted. Furthermore,  Policy and Society only publishes thematic issues. As such, it does not accept individual articles outside of approved thematic issues.

Policy and Society publishes themed issues that encourage in-depth, critical analyses of specific policy areas. Completely open access, it offers authors the opportunity to publish an authoritative collection of articles addressing contemporary policy problems, issues and debates.

Each issue typically contains 6-7 articles of approximately 8,500 words each.

All submissions to  Policy and Society are double-blind peer reviewed.

Submitting a Proposal for a Themed Issue
Proposals should be approximately 4 pages in length and address the following:

1. The title of the proposed themed issue.
2. Statement of the subject to be explored and its significance to policy research.
3. Statement on the rationale for the proposed themed issue, including brief assessment of the books and articles on the proposed subject.
4. A list of 8 - 10 proposed articles along with authors’ name, article title, and detailed abstract of approximately 100 words each.
5. Comment on the linkages among the proposed articles.

Proposals are assessed on the basis of quality, including coherence across articles, as well as size of potential readership.

Articles may be rejected at any stage after submission of proposal and manuscripts, and peer review.

No full manuscripts will be accepted without approval of an initial proposal. Please send themed issue proposals to the Editors for initial review at  [email protected].
