About this journal

Aims and scope

The Journal of LGBT Youth is an international interdisciplinary research forum dedicated to improving the quality of life for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, intersex, queer, questioning, and allied youth.

This quarterly journal presents peer-reviewed scholarly articles, book reviews, practitioner-based essays, policy analyses, and revealing narratives from young people from a wide-range of discourses, contexts, and theoretical disciplines. The papers and works we publish are committed to advancing knowledge and public understanding, advocacy, scholarship, and support for sexual and gender minority youth.

The wide-ranging topics include, but are not limited to formal and non-formal education, family, work, health, sports, leisure, law, media, peer culture, religious/faith-based institutions, and the visual, performance, and creative arts. We are open to all methodological approaches and welcome contributions that are critical, intersectional, and push theoretical boundaries and have value and relevance to an international audience.

Peer Review Policy:Taylor & Francis is committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the highest standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editor, it will then be double anonymized peer reviewed by independent, anonymous expert referees. Find out more about what to expect during peer review and read our guidance on publishing ethics.

Guest Editor Policy: When the journal receives a submission authored by either the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor or one or more of the Associate Editors the following process will be used to evaluate the paper. The editorial office will check the paper in and inform the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor. They will suggest several names to act as the Guest Editor for the paper. The editorial office staff will invite one of the suggested names to act as the Guest Editor, The Guest Editor role entails evaluating the paper, suggesting potential peer reviewers and then, once the reviews are in, making a decision on the paper. The editorial office will oversee the peer review process using the reviewers the Guest Editor suggests. The Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor and Associate Editors will not be involved in any part of the process. The editorial office will communicate only with the Guest Editor until the final decision on the paper is made.
