Nurse practitioners in a private psychiatric practice

Abstract

Psychiatric practice, like other medical disciplines, constantly needs to evolve to meet changing conditions. Many psychiatrists start their careers in hospital, but a significant number end up in private practice, a trend that will increase in future. While public sector resources are not necessarily decreasing, a range of pressures is leading to demoralisation or dissatisfaction, after which the only option is private practice.
