Abstract

In the situation of deep economic crisis in most of the countries of the former Soviet Union, with an almost total unavailability of psychotropic agents, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has become, in many places, the sole method of treatment of schizophrenia. In this paper the results of ECT in 76 male patients with schizophrenia are presented. The effect of ECT on clinical symptoms and duration of remission in schizophrenia are discussed.
