Precipitation is the culmination of a long chain of physical processes. By means of a mathematical model the dynamics involved in the formation of precipitation can be stimulated and certain parameters not directly measurable can be evaluated. In this article we describe the effect of precipitation on the maintenance of a convective system in the case of tropical convection : the squall line. The results from the model are considered in relation to measurement and, in particular, in relation to data obtained from DOPPLER radars. This study is now being carried out as part of the COPT 81 experiment and will subsequently be applied to frontal convective systems, which are particularly important for pluviometry in our temperate zones and will be examined in a coming measurement campaign - FRONT 84.
