L'imagerie satellitaire et radar pour la prévision hydrologique: l'expérience d'EDF

Satellite and radar images for hydrological forecast : EDF experience

Pages 69-72 | Published online: 01 Jul 2009

For hydrological monitoring and forecast of the basins upstream its installations, EDF relies on two regional hydrometeorological centres. It has always been chosen to equip these two centres with tools and human means specialised in weather analysis. In a context of uncertain forecast, this environment enables the hydrologist to readjust constantly his own forecasts, according to the evolution of the situation, and to better apprehend uncenainties. The current contributions of satellite and radar imagery give even more sense to this organization. Indeed, even if these data stand up to automatic and precise quantitative exploitation as for past or future rains, they did considerably improve the possibilities of qualitative monitoring of atmospheric disturbances and their precipitation patterns.
