The Cévennes-Vivarais Mediterranean Hydro-meteorological Observatory aims at improving the understanding and modelling of the intense Mediterranean precipitation events that frequently result in devastating flash-floods in southern France. A primary objective is to bring together the skills of meteorologists and hydrologists, modellers and instrumentalists, researchers and practitioners, to cope with these rather unpredictable events. The three complementary observation strategies implemented within the observatory are reviewed in the present communication.
