Abstract
This paper demonstrates the application of an absorbing Markov chain model to the problems of planning and running a combined dialysis and transplantation programme for the treatment of patients with chronic renal failure. The approach has been successfully used at The London Hospital and Kings College Hospital and an explanation of the analysis and some examples of the results are given.
