A Production-Stocking Problem Analogous to Plant Location

Pages 389-396 | Published online: 19 Dec 2017

Abstract

A company produces steel rings from a variety of tube sizes. A reduction in range of tube sizes used results in lower stocking costs at the expense of increased scrap production. The problem is shown to have the same characteristics as the plant location model. A simple heuristic method is developed capable of producing good solutions and comparison is made with other methods.
